Meet Dr. Ursula

I’m a Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK. I work online with individuals and couples, helping them navigate life’s challenges to heal, grow and (re)connect.

My Approach

Since opening my private practice in 2012, I’ve been fortunate to work with incredible clients from all walks of life. My approach is compassionate, collaborative and grounded in evidence-based methods. I aim to provide a space where you can feel safe, understood and empowered to grow.

I also provide clinical supervision to psychologists and remain actively involved in research and academic work. I’ve published internationally and presented my research on gender dynamics at conferences in South Africa, Japan, the UK and the Czech Republic.

Academic Background

My academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Psychology at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), followed by an Honours in Psychology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from UJ in 2010. During my internship at UJ’s Counselling Centre, I worked with children, adolescents, adults and conducted psychological assessments.

I earned my PhD in Psychology from UKZN in 2017. My doctoral research, “The Wedding Performance: Gender Inequality and System Justification in the White Wedding,” explores how cultural norms around marriage reflect and reinforce gender inequality.

I’m committed to ongoing professional development. I’ve completed Level 3 training in the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy and am a certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor, whereby I support clients in healing their relationship with food and their bodies.

At the end of your first session, we will discuss your treatment goals. You should evaluate whether you feel comfortable working with me. Typically, therapy is provided over the course of several months and requires a very active effort on your part.

Patient

“I am deeply grateful to be supported by Dr Ursula Froschauer; she is patient, conscientious and has been deeply intentional with milestones that we have set through our sessions.
She takes the time to understand me and “walks” me through challenges that seem to be recurring, with a holistic approach of addressing deeper challenging interpersonal/intrapersonal dynamics.
She provides a form of mental health care that inspires growth, accountability, and commitment to self-development through fostering a psychologically safe environment.”

“I have been seeing Dr Ursula since 2018 and boy, has she been on a roller-coaster with me. I didn’t open myself up for a long time, yet she was patient and never once did I feel pressurized. Eventually, I started unpacking childhood trauma, adult trauma and finding myself on the journey. I find Dr Ursula extremely patient and not stiff or clinical like most talk doctors. Dr Ursula has referred me to amazing specialists when I have brought up health concerns. Doctor has gone above and beyond for me over the years.”

“For what it’s worth, it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you find you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start over.”
